How this is calculated
- Hourly rate = monthly salary divided by a monthly-hours divisor. Under the Shop and Office Employees Act the usual divisor is 240 (8 hours x 30 days); Wages Board trades often use 200.
- Overtime is paid at not less than one and a half times the hourly rate. Work on a statutory holiday is commonly paid at double, or by a paid day in lieu.
- Shop and Office employees may not work more than 12 hours of overtime a week. Wages Board limits vary by trade.
